RM of Shellbrook’s story
The Rural Municipality of Shellbrook No. 493 lies in north-central Saskatchewan, west of Prince Albert. It was first incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913, under the name RM of Rozilee No. 493.
On October 20, 1923, the name was changed to the RM of Shellbrook No. 493, the name it carries today.
The municipality surrounds the town of Shellbrook, where the RM office is located, and includes the organized hamlets of Crutwell and Holbein. Prince Albert National Park lies along its northern boundary, and several First Nations reserves border it on the northeast. Two Canadian National Railway branch lines, the Big River and Blaine Lake branches, have served the area, and highways 3, 40, 240 and 693 run through or near it.
